  WHO IS A MEDICAL TRANSCRIPTIONIST?

Medical Transcriptionists (MTs) are specialists in medical language and health care documentation who interpret and transcribe dictation by physicians and other health care professionals regarding patient assessment, workup, therapeutic procedures, clinical course, diagnosis, prognosis etc. Editing dictated material for grammer and clarity is necessary and appropriate. A medical transcriptionist must have: knowledge of medical terminology, disease processes, signs & symptoms, medications, laboratory values and knowledge of medical transcription guidelines and practices.

WHAT DOES A MEDICAL TRANSCRIPTIONIST DO?

The transcriptionist puts on headphones attached to the computer and pushes foot pedal with her foot. As the voice file begins to play, she hears the doctor’s dictation. She types the information in the computer, making sure all the information is correct.
