WHO
IS A MEDICAL TRANSCRIPTIONIST? |

Medical
Transcriptionists (MTs) are specialists in medical language and
health care documentation who interpret and transcribe dictation
by physicians and other health care professionals regarding patient
assessment, workup, therapeutic procedures, clinical course, diagnosis,
prognosis etc. Editing dictated material for grammer and clarity
is necessary and appropriate. A medical transcriptionist must have:
knowledge of medical terminology, disease processes, signs &
symptoms, medications, laboratory values and knowledge of medical
transcription guidelines and practices. |

WHAT
DOES A MEDICAL TRANSCRIPTIONIST DO? |
|
| |
The
transcriptionist puts on headphones attached to the computer and
pushes foot pedal with her foot. As the voice file begins to play,
she hears the doctor’s dictation. She types the information
in the computer, making sure all the information is correct. |

The
technology has enabled transcriptionists to work for companies in
remote locations, all from the comfort of a home office. |
